On Land

Environment Information
At Rill Architects we run ArchiCAD on macOS. If you work at Rill, this is your stuff. If you don't, but you work in ArchiCAD, you may find something interesting. Anybody else, I don't know.

Obsolete. We're not using cach libraries at this time.

It's good to have the libraries on the server so we are all up to date all the time. But loading libraries from the network is slow. This is a big problem when updating views in PlotMaker. The satellite library is an attempt to have it both ways. It has been bumpy in the past, but I've tried it again and can cautiously recommend it.

What happens:

A copy of the loaded libraries is created at Home : Library : Caches : Graphisoft : Local Cache Library. Whenever the libraries are reloaded, Archicad performs a synchronization between the server and the local cache, so that changes on each are reflected on both. In Archicad 8.1, you will be presented with the Library manager when you open the project, as if there were libraries missing, which there probably aren't. When you click done, the sync is performed and the parts are loaded.

Setup:

The libraries should be loaded normally from the carrot. Go to File | Library Manager and click the Library Cache Settings button.

Check the Use a Local Copy (Satellite) box. Leave the location as it is. OK the dialog and click Reload or Done.

Maintenance:

As objects are created by others, they will not be available to you until you reload. This is no different from loading directly from the server. When you create a new object, *don't save it to the carrot.* This is a change. Save it locally to the cache library at Home : Library : Caches : Graphisoft : Local Cache Library. If you save it on the carrot, you will get a duplicate the next time you reload. When you save an object to your local cache, Archicad updates the server library instantly, and the object will be available to others as they reload.

Taking libraries home:

Continue to copy the libraries from the carrot regularly as before.
